Summer is in full swing, which means those days spent in the office dreaming of hot summer evenings, sandy toes, and refreshing cocktails are now a reality. Cape Town doesn’t disappoint when it comes to magnificent scenic spots to enjoy a cocktail or two and kick off your shoes.

Whether you are more of a traditional cocktail lover or like to live life on the edge - a delicious cocktail is one thing that will most certainly spark up memories of a fantastic summer holiday. To help you navigate your way through the endless cocktail spots scattered around the city, we’ve put together our list of top five cocktail bars with breath taking views of the cityscape, ocean or Table Mountain. No matter the occasion - we’ve got something to suit anyone’s checklist.

Up Yours

A short walk from our Kloof Nek Road Hotel, this roof top bar is the epitome of Cape Town cool. Kloof Street is synonymous with cocktail spots but this one takes it to the next level with stunning views of Signal Hill, Table Mountain and the bustling street. It’s a popular spot for students, locals and tourists looking for an authentic Cape Town experience. If you are feeling a bit hungry, head downstairs to Your Truly for pizzas and sandwiches.

Opening times: daily -  14h30 – 21h00

Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel & Spa rooftop bar

Nestled at the foothill of Table Mountain, our luxurious Cape Town hotel offers a trendy rooftop bar. It boasts impressive 360-degree views of the Mother City and is definitely one to add your Cape Town bucket list. It’s the ideal spot to bring a group of friends for after work drinks or to relax after a day of exploring the city. Dip your feet in our pool and sip on one of our bar’s signature cocktails, and if you are feeling a bit peckish order a light snack from our SushiBox menu.

Visit us on a Wednesday from between 15h00 – 17h00 for R45 cocktails and local craft beers 2-for-1.

Opening times: daily 11h00 until late.

Sotano
A firm favourite among locals, this Cape Town restaurant offers spectacular beach views and an ideal spot for sundowners. Featuring an extensive wine list and a picturesque shot of the Mouille Point lighthouse, Sotano is renowned for their atmosphere, fantastic food and drinks.

Cape Town locals flock to this spot on a Wednesday, for their two-for-one lamb burger special that starts at 17h00. Head to their restaurant on Fridays to listen to live jazz between 19h00 – 21h00. We’d recommend this spot to anyone staying with us over the summer holidays, as Sotano always has something to keep guests entertained and satisfied.

Opening times: daily - 07h00 – 23h00

Harvey’s Restaurant
Located on the Sea Point strip, the historic Winchester Mansions hotel offers old-school sophistication paired with a sea-facing terrace that’s perfect for watching the sunset. If you are looking to combine your drinks with something to eat, the restaurant offers an array of sweet and savoury snacks.

The bar serves up some delectable unique cocktails, all of which are ideal for a hot summer day out on their terrace. If you pop in on a Wednesday after 18h00 they offer ladies a complementary cocktail or glass of rose on arrival – we think that’s more than enough to entice you to visit.

Opening times: daily: 10h00 - late

The Grand Café and Beach
Imagine a Miami beach bar with South African flair. Well this café is one of Cape Town’s hottest seaside cafés with its own private beach and cocktail bar. Hot summer days are best spent lounging on their wooden deck with your feet in the sand and a chilled drink in hand.  The café is most certainly not shy with their extensive list of tropical cocktails, fine wine and craft beer.

The view is what takes the cake and we’d suggest pairing it with a glass of bubbly.  If you need light snack then take your pick from wood-fired pizzas, starters or salads. If you are looking for the ultimate beachside experience, then this spot is worth a visit.

Opening times: daily: 12h00 – 00h00

Take on the challenge of visiting all these scenic spots this summer holiday and let us know which others you’d add to the list. Salute!
